KBCI 2 Boise, Idaho:"With only four days left until Christmas, shoppers are running out of time to find or order MP3 players. The music players are one of the hottest gifts to give and receive this holiday season according to several Boise businesses."

"Just as fast as we get them in they turn and go out the door," says Chris Dresen with CompUSA.

Apple iPods are particularly hot sellers. Four of the five top items on Amazon.com's best seller list are iPods or iPod accessories. The iPod Nano has appeared multiple times on the list, despite consumer complaints that the screen scratches too easily.

"iPods have become extremely popular because of the ease of use, the look, the overall design," says Apple Specialist Ken Scherer.

The company has sold out of one version of the iPod Shuffle and it's too late to ship other Apple products in time for Christmas. Treasure Valley shoppers have turned to local stores for help, but often leave empty handed; supply is very limited. iPods aren't the only choice on the MP3 player market. There are a range of alternate choices. Most of those choices are compatible with iTunes, the music downloading program designed by Apple. Their displays often resemble that of an iPod and, according to CompUSA, they're on store shelves now.

"Some of the alternatives will support anywhere from 100 to 200 songs, sometimes more," says Dresen.
