Toy Makers Attach Products to IPod Craze
After bemoaning the emergence of the iPod as children‘s latest must-have toy, toy makers are now looking at the digital musical player as their own marketing strategy. For even younger children, Baby Einstein Co. has a rocking chair that connects to an iPod so parents can sing along while the child rocks. And Emerson Radio Corp. has a SpongeBob SquarePants speaker system that plugs into an iPod, part of its line of electronics sold under the Nickelodeon brand. Music provides an up-beat, motivational soundtrack; John Kerr, British ice dancer, who skates with sister, Sinead, has said he likes to listen to "Beat It" and "Billie Jean" by Michael Jackson before events. iPod is an athlete's perfect music companion - whether it be upside down on a jump, in the middle of a corkspin, or during a death spiral on the ice. iPod is light-weight and compact and fits easily into winter sports clothing, or onto your person with one of the growing selection of iPod accessories for sport. iTunes: One Billion Served
There's been a counter on Apple's iTunes Web page since early February that's been ticking up to the music service's 1 billionth download, and sometime last night it happened. Apple says Alex Ostrovsky from West Bloomfield, Mich., was the lucky audiophile who downloaded "Speed of Sound" by Brit pop band Coldplay, giving the Cupertino, Calif., company bragging rights to the 10-figure milestone. Thanks to a generous prize package from Apple, Ostrovsky will now use a $10,000 iTunes music card to keep those downloads flowing on his new 20-inch iMac computer, and listen to his favorite tunes on one of the 10 60GB iPods. In addition, Apple will set up a scholarship to the world-famous Juilliard School of Music in New York in Ostrovsky's name. The trend-setting computer and gadget maker thanked fans with a note on its Web site. (Read More.... ABC News)
